How to Configure Auto Dispatch Settings

Set up Auto Dispatch to match your fleet's coverage area and driver availability. These settings control how Moovs searches for drivers and how long it waits for responses.

Before You Begin

  • Install the Driver App

  • Consider your typical driver distribution and response times in your service area

Step 1: Open Auto Dispatch Settings

Navigate to Settings → Auto Dispatch from the main menu.

Step 2: Enable Auto Dispatch

Toggle the Enable Auto Dispatch switch to turn on the feature for your account.

Step 3: Set Your Initial Search Radius

Enter the starting radius (in miles) to search for drivers from the trip's pickup location. This is where Moovs looks first.

A smaller radius finds the closest drivers but may miss available drivers just outside the zone. A larger radius casts a wider net but may ping drivers who are farther away.

Step 4: Configure the Expansion Increment

Set how many miles to add to the search radius each time no drivers accept. For example, if your initial radius is 20 miles and expansion increment is 5 miles, the second search covers 25 miles.

Step 5: Set Maximum Search Radius

Define the outer limit for driver searches. Once this radius is reached, expansion stops. This prevents pinging drivers who are too far away to reasonably accept the trip.

Step 6: Configure Ping Timeout

Set how long (in seconds) to wait for drivers to respond before moving to the next batch or expanding the radius. Shorter timeouts speed up the process but give drivers less time to respond.

Step 7: Set Maximum Expansion Attempts

Define how many times Moovs should expand the search radius before marking the dispatch as failed. After reaching this limit, you'll need to retry Auto Dispatch or manually assign a driver.

Step 8: Configure Drivers Per Batch

Set how many drivers to ping simultaneously in each batch. Higher numbers increase the chance of quick acceptance but mean more drivers receive notifications for the same trip.

Settings Reference

Setting

What It Does

Recommended Starting Point

Initial Search Radius

First area to search for drivers

3-5 miles (urban), 10-15 miles (suburban/rural)

Expansion Increment

Miles added each expansion

2-5 miles

Maximum Search Radius

Outer limit of search

15-25 miles

Ping Timeout

Seconds to wait for response

30-60 seconds

Maximum Expansion Attempts

Times to expand before failing

3-5 attempts

Drivers Per Batch

Drivers pinged simultaneously

3-5 drivers

Pro Tips

  • Start with conservative settings and adjust based on actual acceptance rates

  • In areas with high driver density, use a smaller initial radius and more drivers per batch

  • For time-sensitive trips, reduce the ping timeout to cycle through drivers faster

  • Monitor failed dispatches—if you see many failures, consider increasing your maximum radius or expansion attempts

Troubleshooting

Issue: Auto Dispatch fails frequently

Solution: Check that your maximum search radius is large enough for your market. Also verify that drivers have push notifications enabled in the Driver App.

Issue: Drivers too far away are being pinged

Solution: Reduce your initial search radius and expansion increment. Consider lowering the maximum search radius as well.

Issue: Dispatch takes too long to find a driver

Solution: Increase drivers per batch to ping more drivers simultaneously. You can also reduce the ping timeout to cycle through batches faster.
